Top 8 ChatGPT Plugins

ChatGPT is already a remarkable tool, but when paired with plugins, it reaches new heights. These plugins are third-party apps or add-ons designed to enhance ChatGPT abilities, making it a versatile and powerful tool suitable for various tasks.

To try and use these plugins, you'll need a ChatGPT Plus subscription, which costs $20 per month and gives you access to the most recent model of the service, currently ChatGPT-4. Installing plugins is easy with a ChatGPT Plus account. Just hover over the GPT-4 icon and click "plugins." You can explore and install the plugins you need. Once installed, they seamlessly integrate with ChatGPT-4, activating when you need them.

With a vast selection of over a thousand plugins and new ones emerging constantly, we've decided to simplify your journey and curate a selection of the top 8 popular plugins for you to explore.

1. VoxScript: Best for search engine results

VoxScript is a powerful ChatGPT plugin aimed at making searching through YouTube possible. YouTube has a wealth of information, but digesting it in video format doesn't suit everyone. If you prefer written content over video, the VoxScript ChatGPT plugin can be a tremendously helpful tool. It allows searching through YouTube transcripts to isolate specific statements, analyze them, summarize, and pull out useful information.

Notably, VoxScript can't create transcripts for videos on YouTube that don't already have them. However, Google is actively working on integrating Aloud, an AI-powered dubbing and translation service, to automatically provide transcripts for YouTube content. This improvement will significantly enhance VoxScript's usefulness.

Users can simply provide a video URL and ask it to generate a transcript. VoxScript will efficiently deliver a detailed transcript along with its basic details and a view count. However, for users who want more, VoxScript can be used to provide Google search results via DuckDuckGo for even more data. While this feature is currently in development, once it's refined, VoxScript has the potential to become an exceptional ChatGPT application.

Here is an example of how ChatGPT worked when we asked to provide the transcript of this video.

Obviously, if you try to receive this transcript from the free version, you will receive the answer that it cannot access or retrieve specific content from external websites or videos.

2. Expedia: Best for travel

Expedia is a ChatGPT plugin designed to simplify travel planning. With this plugin, you can effortlessly book flights and hotels and access valuable travel recommendations. Just specify your destination and other essential details, and Expedia will provide flight options and hotel booking choices, including expected layovers and delays, hotel location, room type, date ranges, prices, and even suggest local sights and activities. Once satisfied with your selection, you can ask ChatGPT to generate links for a seamless experience. With the Expedia plugin, ChatGPT has the potential to function as a virtual travel agent.

In our below example, ChatGPT provided the links and prices even before we asked.

Without the Expedia plugin, ChatGPT provides more general responses that may not directly facilitate flight or hotel bookings, although it still offers helpful hotel recommendations.

3. Canva: Best for graphic design

Canva, known for its graphic design prowess, has extended its capabilities by introducing a ChatGPT plugin. Once installed, ChatGPT can assist with your design needs. Simply provide a prompt, such as "Create a logo for my website," and choose from various options. You can further refine your design in Canva's interface.

The Canva ChatGPT plugin serves diverse purposes, from crafting social media posts to producing Instagram Reels and TikTok videos. It can even generate website templates and chat-friendly presentations.

The real standout feature is Canva's flexibility. You can easily edit the generated content by following a provided link, all without the need to log in separately. This plugin makes Canva's a truly great addition to ChatGPT.

Here is an example of the plugin at work.

ChatGPT-3.5 can only provide a broad, generic response to the same question, similar to the following.

4. OpenTable: Best for restaurant reservations

OpenTable, an established online restaurant reservation service dating back to 1998, boasts a vast network of restaurant partnerships. They make it easy to discover new dining spots, reserve tables, and access reviews from your laptop.

Now, with a ChatGPT integration, it's easier than ever to find and book great dining spots. Just install it and ask ChatGPT to find the perfect dining spot based on your criteria. Specify details like date, time, location, and group size. The plugin processes the info and automatically identifies suitable restaurants. The provided links lead directly to pre-filled reservation details, making it one of the top ChatGPT plugins for effortless restaurant bookings.

Looking to savor oysters in New York City? You can simply inquire with ChatGPT and utilize the OpenTable plugin to discover the perfect dining options. It is worth pointing out that, occasionally, the results might miss some obvious restaurant options.  Here is how it works:

By clicking the provided link, you'll land on the restaurant's website, complete with pre-filled reservation information for your convenience.

While ChatGPT-3.5 is not completely useless in such cases and can provide some assistance with similar query, it falls short in offering reservation options or real-time restaurant status. As a result, you may still need to conduct separate searches to confirm restaurant availability.

5. WolframAlpha: Best for computation

ChatGPT excels in various tasks, but complex math can be a challenge. After all, it's a massive language model, and a text-based interface isn't optimized for numerical tasks, so it might produce misleading information. Here is where WolframAlpha comes to the rescue. Wolfram excels in precise mathematical calculations, making it invaluable for intricate questions and formula-solving. Additionally, it covers various topics, from science and technology to history and culture.

Combining the strengths of ChatGPT's conversational capabilities with WolframAlpha's precision, ChatGPT becomes a powerful tool for obtaining trustworthy, data-driven responses and advanced computation, enhancing its capabilities across various fields, including chemistry, geography, astronomy, and more. Whether you need assistance creating genealogical trees or understanding audio spectrograms, the Wolfram ChatGPT plugin offers advanced features and real-time data access.

While it may seem too technical for some users, the Wolfram ChatGPT plugin is a valuable addition, bridging the gap between ChatGPT's natural language interface and Wolfram's expert data analysis and computation resources. It's currently free, but a subscription may be introduced in the future as the main WolframAlpha system already comes with a "Pro" subscription itself.

We have chosen three examples to showcase the impressive capabilities of the WolframAlpha plugin. The first demonstrates complex computations, the second involves real-time data retrieval, and the third illustrates diagram creation. The results obtained from these examples are truly impressive.

ChatGPT- 3.5 failed to provide an accurate response for the provided complex computation, nor could it retrieve real-time data or generate graphics and diagrams. So, we can state with confidence that the synergy of ChatGPT and WolframAlpha yields exceptional outcomes.

6. WebPilot: Best for general web searching

WebPilot is the go-to ChatGPT plugin for web browsing that streamlines interactions with web pages, enabling natural and intuitive conversations about online content. By sharing a URL with WebPilot, ChatGPT can provide information exclusively from that source. You can request various interactions and content extractions, including rewriting, translating, and more. For instance, simple prompts like "Can you summarize this page? https://www.scrumlaunch.com/blog/8-best-chatGPT-plugins" can lead to detailed conversations about the content or customized versions.

The plugin empowers users to search the entire internet, guiding them to the most relevant content. You can engage with single or multiple web pages, receiving condensed summaries. WebPilot's functionality automates common web-based tasks, reducing the need for extended conversations with ChatGPT. It's a powerful tool for efficient web interactions and content manipulation.

Here's a practical example of how it functions: We provided a link to one of our earlier articles that compared ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4 and requested a summary of its content.

In the free version, you can expect to receive a standard response like the one below. The only alternative is to manually input content as a prompt, but it's not suitable for handling large volumes of text or content spanning multiple pages.

7. AskYourPDF: Best for Reading PDF documents

A lot of valuable information is stored in PDF files, but it is not a researcher-friendly format. AskYourPDF is a valuable ChatGPT plugin that simplifies extracting information from PDFs, making it particularly valuable for students, researchers, or anyone dealing with academic papers. It also works as a stand-alone offering independently of ChatGPT but seamlessly integrates with it.

To use AskYourPDF, you must upload the PDF document to the AskYourPDF website, which generates a document ID. You can then return to ChatGPT and use the document ID to ask questions about a PDF document as if chatting with an expert on the topic therein. While the initial setup might involve an extra step, the plugin excels at analyzing the information within the document, from the number of pages to the content of the PDF itself, saving you valuable time.

We have uploaded said document as described above and asked ChatGPT to summarize it.

Without such plugins,s, ChatGPT's response would typically resemble the following:

8. Zapier:  Best for organization

Zapier is the ultimate ChatGPT plugin for streamlining tasks and organizing workflows. It allows users to seamlessly interact with over 5,000 different work apps, including popular tools like Gmail, Google Sheets, MS Outlook, Slack, Trello, and more. By establishing a one-time connection and approving required actions, users can automate various tasks, from searches and writing or updating tasks to automating team messaging, contact management, and more. After setup, you can effortlessly compose complete emails or send detailed Slack messages directly from ChatGPT. Zapier seamlessly collaborates with ChatGPT to enable these actions and allows users to make edits as needed. With over 50,000 supported actions, Zapier simplifies complex workflow processes, enhances productivity, and reduces manual tasks.

Below, we have an example of Zapier in action. We proposed creating an email draft on a specific topic. Initially, it suggests that you review the provided draft and make any necessary edits or confirm it. Subsequently, it provides a link where you can access the draft email in the corresponding folder in your email inbox. It's important to note that configuring the plugin isn't as straightforward as we would prefer, as each stage requires confirmation. However, once it's configured, we expect it to become a more user-friendly and streamlined tool.

It goes without saying that ChatGPT 3.5 cannot perform such tasks. I can still offer valuable recommendations for email content that you can manually incorporate into your message within your email client, allowing you to proceed with your email as usual.

Bottom Line

We were genuinely impressed by the wealth of opportunities that these plugins unveil in both business operations and our daily lives. While it's essential to approach them with some caution, as ChatGPT responses may not be entirely foolproof, particularly during this beta testing phase, the future appears promising and full of intriguing potential.
